Legionella

Legionellosis is contracted by inhaling small water droplets in air which contain the Legionella bacteria, in most cases the species is Legionella pneumophila.

Riverside’s team can provide full risk assessment to routine temperature monitoring programmes for water systems from domestic water services to commercial cooling towers.

It is important to control the risks of legionellosis by introducing control measures as outlined in the Approved Code of Practice (ACOP) and guidance document “Legionnaires’ disease – The Control of Legionella Bacteria in Water Systems (L8)”. This document provides guidance on standards that must be met in order to comply with the legal requirements for dealing with these risks.

The ACOP applies where there is a risk of legionella in water systems, these include:

Cooling towers
Hot and cold water systems
Humidifiers and air washers
Spa baths
High risk building uses such as hospitals and care homes
And any other…
